Unity Lutheran Christian Elementary School seeks an Elementary and Spiritual Care Teacher to serve as a minister of Christian education within the school, responsible for teaching all elementary subjects, including the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions; nurturing spiritual growth; and providing spiritual care to students and their families. This position supports the school’s mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ through faithful Gospel proclamation, Christ-centered education, and compassionate spiritual guidance, all grounded in Lutheran theology and practice.
Primary Responsibilities:
- 1. Religious Instruction and Faith Formation
- Teach Holy Scripture, Lutheran doctrine, and the Book of Concord in accordance with Lutheran teachings.
- Develop and implement Christ-centered religious education curricula for students of different age groups.
- Teach Luther’s Small Catechism
- Integrate Christian faith formation into both academic and social learning environments.
- 2. Teach all major elementary-age subjects, including Reading, Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies
- 3. Spiritual Care
- Offer spiritual encouragement, prayer, and faith-based counseling aligned with Lutheran theology.
- Support students facing emotional, social, or spiritual challenges.
- Participate in visitation ministry when appropriate (students, families, or school community).
- Assist pastors in cultivating a caring Christian community anchored in Word and Sacrament life.
- 4. Worship and Liturgical Participation
- Contribute to planning and leading chapel services, devotions, and prayer gatherings.
- Encourage student involvement in worship and liturgical practices.
- Teach Lutheran liturgy, hymnody, and Christian devotional practices.
- 5. Christian Character and Community Development
- Model Christian vocation and discipleship in everyday interactions.
- Promote Christian ethics, servant leadership, and respectful community living.
- Encourage mission awareness, service learning, and outreach activities.
- Cultivate an environment rooted in grace, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
- 6. Collaboration and Ministry Partnership
- Work closely with the principal, teachers, and other leaders.
- Regularly communicate with parents about students’ spiritual development.
- Attend faculty meetings, church ministries, and school events.
- Support congregational education programs such as Sunday School, youth ministry, or adult Bible study.
- 7. Administrative and Professional Duties
- Keep lesson plans, student assessments, and educational records organized.
- Make sure the curriculum aligns with Lutheran doctrinal standards.
- Take part in professional development and Lutheran educator training.
- Follow school policies and safety standards.
Candidate must possess the following:
- Active member in good standing of a Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod congregation.
- Bachelor’s degree in theology, Religious Education, or Education (foreign equivalent degree is acceptable).
- Minimum of 12 months' experience teaching Scripture within the Lutheran confessional tradition.
- Documented experience in Christian missionary work or ministry abroad, within Lutheran or ecumenical Christian contexts.
- Documented experience in cross-cultural proclamation of the Gospel through teaching, discipleship, community development, or spiritual care ministries.
